While the mentioned enquiries were sidestepped, the sudden preparations were touted to be a 24-Hour Community Health Centre, to be constructed by the DPWRT on behalf of Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Health. It is a government policy to employ and procure building materials local. It was also stated that Sustainable Integrated Human Settlements Projects within the municipal area were employed, and that significant work had been done by the Department of Human Settlements towards full implementation of an integrated human settlement project in Ermelo Extension 44 and KwaZanele Extension 6. These two extensions were, at the time, stated as identified to be part of the UISP Programme (Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme) which is currently underway. For the first time in 14 global tournaments, they harbour realistic ambitions of lifting the trophy. “We wouldn’t be going if we didn’t all believe we could actually do it,” says Lizelle Lee, the team’s destructive opening batter who was recently recognized as the best 50-over player in the world by the International Cricket Council (ICC). “We spoke about this in camp. We all agreed that there was no point in going if we didn’t intend to come back as champions. We know it’s never been done before, but we want to make history as the first South African team to win a World Cup.” South Africans have conquered the world before. The men’s Under-19 team, captained by Aiden Markram and coached by Ray Jennings, in 2014 became the first side to win a major final. But no senior squad has done it. This group is unburdened by a history of failing when it mattered. The South African women’s side, under-resourced in every metric compared with their male counterparts, have long fought for equality in the country’s third most popular sport. The DA remains extremely concerned at the lack of response from mineral resources and energy minister, Gwede Mantashe, regarding the ongoing diesel shortages being experienced around South Africa. Numerous wholesalers and retailers experiences difficulty in obtaining resupply. Although production had ramped up at the refineries, and product imports had arrived in South African ports, the challenges remain. Gert was ‘n baie bekende in Ermelo, veral onder die vissermanne. Gert het elke dag gelewe vir sy vrou, Yolandé, en sy dogter, Melané. Daar is ‘n brief uitgestuur op Dinsdag, 17 Augustus 2021, waar daar gesê is dat die Top Tien nie meer gaan voort gaan by die skool nie. Op Vrydag, 20 Augustus, het die Tribune ‘n vergadering met Mnr. Nel (skoolhoof) asook Mev. Bester ( beheerliggaam voorsitter) gehad, waar die hele situasie mooi verduidelik is. Die Top Tien is nie weg gevat nie, dit word nou net verbreed. Elke leerder wat bo 85% behaal, word vereer en die nuwe benaming sal dan Akademiese Presteerder wees. Dit gee net elke leerder ‘n kans om deel te vorm van die groep, en om hard te werk sodat die leerder 85% kan behaal. AfriForum has audited 153 landfill sites across South Africa this year as part of the organisation’s national project to measure the quality of landfill sites in South Africa. No nobody’s surprise, only one out of 21 landfill sites that were audited in Mpumalanga complied with national standards. In terms of applicable legislation and regulations, including the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 59 of 2008, all landfill sites must comply with specific requirements, which are not met by municipalities in Mpumalanga. The Ermelo landfill has been a subject of controversy for years, with millions of Rands wasted on contractors and needless rehabilitations of the site, just for it to fall from grace mere months following rehabilitation. In 2015, Msukaligwa Local Municipality (MLM) scored an impressive 85% compliance rating. Alas, it has all gone to the dogs from there. According to the audit, in 2016, scored 52%, and scored 42% in 2017. 2018 and 2020 saw the municipality being rated 18% each year. However, in 2019, MLM essentially failed their compliance completely, with a rating of 2%. In this year’s audit, the municipality scored a compliance rating o a mere 10%, which is well below even the lowest of acceptable standards. According to Hennie Bekker, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Lowveld, most of the landfill sites in Mpumalanga are in a poor state. “This can be attributed mainly to the lack of oversight functions by the state to hold municipal officials responsible for the decay of these landfill sites. The most common problems that AfriForum identified during the audit included the absence of landfill site licences, and complete mismanagement of sites. There is also no maintenance plan for machinery and employees that were contacted attested that certain machines stood for months without being repaired.
