Kleintjie publiseer vierde digbundel 1/3 Share GK CRONJE 7 June 2022 "In elke publikasie is daar gedigte vir almal, en van oud tot jonk kan dit lees. Die gedigte is maklik verstaanbaar, en elke gedig vertel ‘n storie. " Kleintjie Smalberger (Strydom) is ‘n hoogs talentvolle dame, wat asems laat snak met haar pragtige woorde wat sy pen. “Ek skryf tans hoofsaaklik poësie... Dit lê my baie na aan die hart. Dit is baie goeie terapie, en is vir my ontspannend. My grootste aansporing was maar omdat ek al soveel hartseer en ongelukkige tye beleef en ervaar het. My groot liefde vir die Groot-Karoo, asook groot heimwee na my grootword dorp deel ook in my gedigte. Alles wat mooi en kosbaar is vir my, moet ek egter neerpen. Fotografie, musiek en die mooie natuur vorm alles deel van my skryfwerk,” het Kleintjie aan die Tribune gesê. “Dinge wat ons land raak, asook ons boere in erge droogte tye het my vinnig laat voel ek moet daaroor skryf. Dan natuurlik ook ons destydse spoorweë en hawens, vir wie ek ook gewerk het, het my genoop om daaroor te skryf.” Kleintjie het onlangs haar vierde digbundel laat publiseer, en het gesê dat dit nogal baie aangenaam voel om die uiteindelike fisiese digbundel in haar hande vas te hou. In elke publikasie is daar gedigte vir almal, en van oud tot jonk kan dit lees. Die gedigte is maklik verstaanbaar, en elke gedig vertel ‘n storie. “Ek beskou myself as ‘n romantikus en dromer. Ek is ook egter deeglik bewus van al die hartseer en onaangename dinge van ons samelewing. Lewensrealiteite is soms niks aangenaam nie. Om oor hierdie tipe dinge te skryf, maak my soms baie hartseer, maar dit moet ook uitgelaat word sonder om ander te na te kom. Ongelukkig moet ek as digter en skryfster my woorde mooi kies,” sê Kleintjie. Sy het ook vir ‘n jaar lank vir die Insig Koerant in Ermelo ‘n rubriek geskryf, wat goeie reaksie uitgelok het. Kleintjie het die afgelope jaar begin konsentreer op kortverhale skryf, en het gesê dat sy dit baie aangenaam vind. Baie van die verhale is fiksie, en sommiges is fiksie gemeng met ware lewensgebeure. “Ek beplan, indien alles goed verloop, en indien ek gespaar bly, om ‘n kortverhaal omnibus te laat publiseer teen Desember 2022. Dit sal dan my debuut kortverhaal boek wees. Ek glo die lesers sal dit ook baie geniet.” Huidiglik werk Kleintjie aan haar vyfde digbundel, en beplan om dit binne die volgende twee maande te laat publiseer. “Dit is nogal baie tikwerk, waarvan die stilsit seker die ergste is. Die kwessie van verdwaalde en rondloper vee in Ermelo woongebiede, omliggende areas en die buitewyke is al jare aan die gang, sonder enige optrede van die Msukaligwa Plaaslike Munisipaliteit (MLM) en die relevante departemente. In hierdie geval word verordeninge heeltemal geïgnoreer, en die wette word nie deur die owerhede afgedwing nie, wat 'n bose kringloop van frustrasie, saakbeskadiging en gevaar vir motoriste veroorsaak. Verskeie inwoners het gerapporteer dat hul honde onbeheerbaar opgewerk word deur die rondloper vee wat ronddwaal in die woongebied, veral in die De Bruin Park omgewing. Klagtes vanaf inwoners beweer dat dié rondlopers so gewoond geraak het aan verkeer en gevloek van frustreerde motoriste en inwoners, dan die diere hul geensins steur aan die kwaad wat hul stook nie. Inwoners het ook klagtes ingedien van die rondlopers wat hul kom tuismaak in erwe, en ook vullissakke oopskeur op soek na peuselhappies. Verskeie motoriste het nouliks vermy om met hierdie diere te bots, wat ‘n veer voel vir aankomende verkeer. Motoriste wat moet uitswaai, skielik remme aanslaan, en aan die teenoorgestelde kant van die pad ry om hierdie diere te vermy, is teen die tyd al keelvol vir MLM, wat Gods water oor Gods akker laat loop. Hierdie kwessie is egter nie net tot diewoongebiede beperk nie, aangesien inwoners verskeie klagtes ingedien het oor beeste wat in die begraafplase wei, en kosbare herinneringe vertrap, blomme opvreet en vase beskadig, en ander gedenkwaardighede verniel. Alhoewel dit 'n dringende kwessie in Ermelo is, wag almal in spanning dat MLM -amptenare nog beslissend optree. Cecilia Earle, ‘n jarelange inwoner van Ermelo, was op Donderdag, 8 Oktober 2020 betrokke in ‘n tref en trap ongeluk met ‘n swaar motorvoertuig. Cecilia is dadelik na die provinsiale hospitaal geneem vir behandeling. Sy is op Vrydag, 16 Oktober, ontslaan uit die hospitaal ,waar mens kon sien daar is vordering in haar wonde se genesing. Ongelukkig is sy egter op Saterdag, 17 Oktober, deur Igagu mediese personnel na die privaat hospitaal toe gehaas. Haar suster, by wie sy aansterk, moes die wonde skoon maak, maar het opgemerk dat die wonde oornag slegter geraak het. Toe sy by die hospitaal aankom, het sy flinke diens van die mediese personeel ontvang, en is in die hospitaal opgeneem. Tydens ‘n besoek aan Cecilia op Maandag, 19 Oktober, het sy gesê sy voel goed, en dat die personeel mooi na haar omsien, net soos sy in die Tribune uitgawe van 13 Oktober gesê het van die personeel by die provinsiale hospitaal. Cecilia het haar man gedurende grendeltyd aan die dood afgestaan, waarna sy na haar seun en dogter moes omsien. Die gesin beskik nie oor ‘n mediese fonds om te help met al die mediese onkostes nie. Die Tribune het dit goed gedink om ‘n trust fonds te stig vir die mediese onkostes. Die gemeenskap word versoek om hul harte oop te maak, en by te dra waar hulle kan. Residents have taken it upon themselves to drag GMM to court due to their utter lack of governance in their jurisdiction, with the brunt of the complaints stemming from the lack of service delivery and the supply of electricity. The Memorable Order of Tin Hats, or the M.O.T.H as it is more popularly known, is an ex-servicemen and woman organization founded in Durban, South Africa, on May 1927, by Charles Alfred Evenden. Members of M.O.T.H abide by three sound ideals, which are true comradeship, by practicing front line friendship in civilian life, mutual help, by acknowledging the personal and collective obligation to help each other as in front line service, and sound memory, by remembering the fallen as a living companionship and to serve their memory in practical actions. The ideals rise above race, politics and social status. M.O.T.H shell holes have been opened in Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Membership was extended to those who had participated in the South African Border War. The remembrance day at the Monte Sole shellhole in Ermelo saw a myriad of visitors who paid respects by laying down wreaths, and thus ensuring that no sacrifice is ever forgotten. With the strain on Msukaligwa Local Municipality to provide service delivery and feedback to the public amidst financial woes, the Tribune spoke to Mr. Zwane, municipal spokesman, about issues faced by residents when reporting issues to the call centre. Complaints have been continuously flooding in regarding the innate lack of efficiency of the call centre. MLM has, however, previously stated that the call centre is not as it should be, and is rather a makeshift call centre to try and resolve complaints. MLM has, however, been working on implementing a full-fledged VOIP call centre, which will enable efficient logging, tracking and resolution of complaints. According to Mr. Zwane, the aim is to launch the call centre by 31 October 2020, but it should be noted that this a merely a projected date. The most notable complaints regarding the current makeshift call centre, are the lack of reference numbers or job tickets provided to complainants, as well as call centre operators more often than not failing to answer the telephone. “Queries from community members can be logged or reported in a variety of ways, including verbally, in which community members can make a verbal expression after the deficient act or action with respect to the service. Community members can log / report issues by telephone, fax, a letter or e-mail to the call centre, and can also send a WhatsApp voice note, video or picture to municipal call centre numbers. Residents can also fill in complaint, suggestion and compliment form available in all municipal offices. Please note that your address, contact number, details of query and account number (for account and billing queries) must be included with the complaint submitted in the box.” Mr. Zwane said. MLM is also working on an USSD code to submit complaints and queries, and the code will be made public as soon as the testing phase has been completed. “For each query, you MUST get a reference number. You may use the reference number to obtain progress feedback on outstanding queries. The municipal complaints management system will ensure that citizen complaints are resolved within set Service Level Agreement (SLA), and Municipal Service Charter.” Speaking to Mr. Zwane about the call centre operators who fail to answer calls, he stated the following: “Currently, the call centre agents report to the supervisor, who works between 7:30 to 16:15 on weekdays. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) launched a pilot programme, entailing a self-service portal that can be used on both computers and mobile devices. According to SASSA, the turnaround time is 10 days, provided the candidate supplies all the stipulated documents linked to the application such as identity documents of applicant and spouse’s as well as banking details, among others. At this time, the project will cover Child Support, Older Persons and Foster Child grants. SASSA stated that this pilot will provide much-needed relief to grant applicants, as it will save them the inconvenience of standing in queues at SASSA offices. According to the agency, the added advantage is that the convenience of online applications eliminates the risk of being infected with the COVID-19 virus. The agency may require documents supporting a change of circumstances such as payment method, banking details and address. The portal also provides updates on the status of the application. To access this service, applicants need to have an e-mail address to sign up, and to be able to log in for further services. Feedback will be sent via e-mail or through an SMS for those who do not have e-mail addresses. A receipt will be generated when the application is completed. We do not trust the government to ensure there is no corruption involved in the process." SAPTU is not in favour of taxing workers to fund the procurement and distribution of vaccines against COVID-19. According to media reports, Treasury is considering raising taxes to fund the vaccination rollout, stating explicitly that they will be the only bidders for buying the vaccine. “It is inconceivable that our government even considers raising taxes to provide an essential service,” says Adv Ben van der Walt, the general secretary of SAPTU (South African Parastatal and Tertiary Institutions Union). “While at the same time, the money thrown at SAA, the Land Bank, Eskom and any other state-owned enterprises seem to disappear into the abyss.” The Minister of Health, Mr Zweli Mkhize, already confirmed an estimated cost of R20 billion to vaccinate the entire country, but more recent rumoured estimates by Treasury put the amount at around R10 billion. “This is yet another example where the government creates distrust,” says Adv Van der Walt. “Why is there such a discrepancy between the two estimates? We do not trust the government to ensure there is no corruption involved in the process. All major medical aids are accepted. Medirite will be administering flu vaccines for just R109.99 each, a price unchanged from last year, when it offered the cheapest flu vaccine in South Africa among the major pharmacy chains. From the second week of March, the pharmacy chain, conveniently located inside Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets, will be among the first to offer flu vaccines for the upcoming winter season. Lisa Giltrow, senior pharmacist at Medirite, says the flu vaccine is safe, recommended for all age groups and is the most effective way to prevent infection this season. “While flu can impact all age groups, some groups and individuals are more at risk than others. In particular, the elderly, pregnant women, children, those with chronic conditions, and health care workers are at increased risk of contracting or being severalty affected by flu,” explains Giltrow.
