The Bed Shop Ermelo aan die brand 1/2 Share SH HATTINGH 16 June 2020 Die nodige personeel was spoedig op die toneel, en het daarin geslaag om die brand blitsvinnig te stuit voor die res van die winkel ook kon vlam vat. Op Woensdag, 10 Junie, het The Bed Shop in Joubert Straat aan die brand geslaan. Die vuur het ontstaan in die stoorkamer, maar die oorasaak van die brand is steeds onbekend. Working on Fire Mpumalanga firefighters assist their FPA in suppressing a fire. 1/2 Share GK CRONJE 27 October 2020 The programme celebrated its seventeenth year of existence in September, with the theme being “17 Years of Partnerships for Success”, to celebrate the strong relationship the programme has with its partners, which has seen it being named one of the best Expanded Public Works Programme. The 2020 Winter Fire Season is in the latter stages, and the Department of Environment, Forestry, and Fisheries Working on Fire (WOF) firefighters in Mpumalanga, working with various Fire Protection Associations (FPA’s), suppressed a total of 58 veld and forest fires during the month of September 2020.According to WOF’s provincial communications officer, Amanda Mthembu, the fires recorded were all successfully contained, and mop-up operations conducted. “We dispatched a total of 17 out of 24 teams to assist their FPA’s and local municipalities in fire suppression operations this month, with fewer fires recorded than in August, as the season is drawing to a close,” Mthembu said. In addition to the ground crews dispatched to extinguish these fires, WOF, Umphuluzi Fire Protection Association (UFPA) and Lowveld Escarpment Fire Protection Association (LEFPA) aerial resources provided aerial firefighting assistance and flew over 70 hours during these fire suppression operations. “The novel COVID-19 pandemic has made operations difficult, but as an essentialservice, we have had to adjust and continue with our world-renowned Integrated Management Services, ” Mthembu added. WOF continues to partner with various provincial government departments, municipalities, private and public landowners, in attempts to minimize the dire effects of veld and forest fires. NSFAS students urged to use allowances to buy devices 1/1 Share GK CRONJE 2 June 2020 Nchabeleng said the work that NSFAS is doing in support of the departmental objectives to increase the number of poor students in higher education at no cost, is noted. He said more work needs to be done around a policy that will ensure access to the category of students who belong to the ‘missing middle’. Students receiving aid from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) have been urged to use their learning material allowances to purchase learning devices so they can learn remotely during the lockdown. “Many students, who still have not bought laptops must do so, especially those who have been paid the annual teaching assistance allowance of R5 200, to buy gadgets that will facilitate their learning during this challenging time,” said the chairperson of the Select Committee on Education and Technology, Sports, Arts and Culture, Elleck Nchabeleng. NSFAS qualifying students receive learning material allowance for the year, which includes R5 200 issued once a year to beneficiaries to purchase things like laptops, tablets and books. Nchabeleng said the committee is satisfied with the proficiency and efficiency with which the NSFAS Administrator, Dr Randall Carolissen has run the entity, even during the Covid-19 distraction. The committee also welcomed the task team announced by Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister, Dr. Blade Nzimande, over the weekend. The task team will investigate challenges associated with the move to the student-centred model at NSFAS in 2017. “The intervention will enhance the work of the Administrator and improve the service to poor students. Commendable work to stabilise the student financial aid scheme is being realised, and that has been demonstrated by how allowances are being distributed to students,” Nchabeleng said. Nchabeleng said the work that NSFAS is doing in support of the departmental objectives to increase the number of poor students in higher education at no cost, is noted. Al die hokkiespanne het nuwe vaardighede en tegnieke in ge-oefen tydens die vaardigheidsessies, waar die Nedstar-afrigters moeite gedoen het met elke span. Hierdie bekwame afrigters het leiding aan elke span en afrigter gegee tydens wedstryde. Erries jet off to the USA 1/1 Share Content Supplied 1 November 2022 The Erries are grateful to have been part of this unforgettable, sublime, confounding experience. From 29 September to 10 October 2022, three Erries, Ina Mathebula, De La Rey Hattingh and Pieter Landman, made their way to America for an educational tour. This particular tour's unique nature lies firstly within the tour group: a group of like-minded academic achievers from across South Africa who get to interact, network and learn together, often forcing new and lasting friendships. The Erries are grateful to have been part of this unforgettable, sublime, confounding experience. Meeting these learners was amazing, and every second spent with them was worthwhile. The tour offers students the opportunity to further their quest in developing their skills and fulfilling their potential through attending private, thought-provoking lectures based on topical subjects, hosted by thought-leaders at world renowned universities namely Harvard, MIT, Yale and Princeton University. The learners also got time to explore the cities New York, Boston and Washington DC which was truly astonishing, being exposed to new foods, environments and people. It wasn't just tours and lectures, the learners had their fair share of fun times. “Going to America was truly a blessing on its own and I will forever be grateful for my parents for making it happen. NPSS class of 2020 produces great results 1/1 Share SH HATTINGH 2 March 2021 Congratulations to all the Grade 12 educators who put in the hours and dedication that led to these achievements. NPSS is proud to announce the 2020 Grade 12 results. The pass rate improved from 93.5% in 2019, to 95% in 2020. A total of 17 distinctions were obtained. Kwandisa Mathebula did NPSS proud with four distinctions in Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation, Business Studies and Life Sciences. Her average is 83%. Akhona Ngiba achieved four distinctions in Mathematics, Computer Applications Technology, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences. He passed with a 77.9% average. Nosisa Vilane obtained distinctions in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, and achieved an average of 75.3%. The following learners also achieved distinctions: Afrikaans: Sandile Mthombeni, Lindokuhle Mathenjwa, Mathematics: Thanyani Mulaudzi, Mathematical Literacy: Nqobile Khumalo, Zethembe Maseko, Life Orientation: Lerato Nkosi and Life Sciences: Nobuhle Nqoteni. NPSS is especially proud of this group who worked hard under extraordinary circumstances to achieve excellent results.
