  • Jurie se hartklop stil in Hartland | tribune-newspaper

• Willow Creek SHU nearing commencement | tribune-newspaper

Willow Creek SHU nearing commencement A depicted example of an SHU project. A depicted example of an SHU project. 1/1 Share GK CRONJE 16 August 2022 Concerns have been raised by the business community and residents in this area that the municipality has in essence written cheques that their actions can’t cash. In line with its strategic focus areas, the Department of Human Settlements (DHS) remains steadfast on increasing access to affordable rental housing across the province, particularly in the mining towns. The DHS announced six projects nationwide, of which two will be in Mpumalanga. KwaNdokuhle and Willow Creek Social Housing Projects will be implemented in Govan Mbeki and Msukaligwa Local Municipalities, respectively. The KwaNdokuhle project will feature 492 social housing units (SHU), whereas the Willow Creek is set to offer 360 units. The combined estimated budget on both projects exceeds R326 million, and will be implemented over a 24 month period, commencing in 2022/23 financial year. Mzansi Housing Company takes responsibility of the Willow Creek Project, which will, according to information available, be constructed in the area between President Fouché Avenue and Wes Street. MEC Speed Mashilo indicated that these units have no pre-emptive rights whatsoever, and remained assertive and concise that these units will be for rental purposes only. Tenants will be signing lease agreements and committing to paying rental fees as required. Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, Minister of Human Settlements, Water, and Sanitation, unveiled the projects shortly after the State Of The Nation Address, and stated that it forms part of the protracted struggle to eliminate the legacy of apartheid. “More work still needs to be done in reshaping the apartheid spatial development, however, significant progress has already been achieved. The Bill of Rights contained in our constitution affirms the right of all to a healthy environment; access to adequate housing; and access to basic services. Our communities, especially the poorest of the poor, deserve better from us their representatives,” Kubayi-Ngubane stated. Five social housing institutions and one additional development agency will be supported through equity and loan funding to enable these projects. Kubayi said social housing is government’s most promising programme that will help to disrupt the apartheid spatial development and make cities more inclusive, with social housing bing financed with a combination of government funding, debt and equity. The Tribune spoke to the DHS regarding the project, and which entity will be responsible for which part of the construction. The main cause for concern is the fact that this area that is provisionally allocated for the project is notorious for it’s ongoing sewerage network issues, which has been ongoing for more than a decade. To this day, the issue of raw sewage pollution is ongoing. Additionally, this area falls within the infamous 88KV line, which already experiences daily outages and extended bouts of municipal load reduction. Fears that the already strained network being unable to handle the demand of an additional 360 housing units have been made known. The DHS responded to the enquiries regarding these issues, and stated that the already fumbling Msukaligwa Local Municipality will, as a matter of principal, be held accountable for the upgrade and maintenance of the required infrastructure for the development. “The municipality is responsible for infrastructure, as such they have made an undertaking to both Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) and the department to upgrade the infrastructure,” the DHS said. Concerns have been raised by the business community and residents in this area that the municipality has in essence written cheques that their actions can’t cash. The municipality has already lost the trust of the public with their failure to deliver basic services, and sustainably deliver maintenance to every aspect of the infrastructure of Ermelo. In relation to the commencement date, the DHS is currently dealing with technical and administrative issues which aims to be resolved soon, and will duly indicate the confirmed commencement date as it arrives. < Previous Article Next Article >

  • Sean needs your help in cancer battle | tribune-newspaper

Sean needs your help in cancer battle 1/2 Share GK CRONJE 7 June 2022 Sean received the biopsy results, and it seems to be clear. However, there are still some tests that needs to be done, including a PET scan. Sean Duranty, a well-known and beloved in Ermelo, has had a long and hard road with his ongoing battle with cancer. Following a previous bout of treatment, Sean received the good news that his cancer was in remission. Sean received the biopsy results, and it seems to be clear. However, there are still some tests that needs to be done, including a PET scan. Although Sean has a medical aid, the unforeseen costs that are not covered is making life a little difficult at this time. Receiving treatment in Trichardt, Sean has to travel extensively to seek medical attention, and most probably has to travel to Pretoria as part of his treatment, depending on the outcome of the biopsy. Sean has told the Tribune that when he had to receive a PET scan during his previous treatment, he had to pay R5000 cash before they could assist him. Factoring in the escalating costs due to inflation, the cost of such a scan could be considerably more this time around. A group of Sean’s friends has since clubbed together and launched a support group to donate funds towards his expenses, but there is still a long road ahead which will require Sean to stretch his wallet even further. Should be biopsy return unfavorably, Sean will be subjected to another round of radiation and an extensive list of oral medication, of which all comes at considerable financial strain. Sean has told the Tribune that he hopes to receive his biopsy results during the course of the week, and will then be able to plan the way forward. During this very stressful time, Sean stated that either way, another PET scan is on the cards, as well as either an operation or another round of radiation. “Any donated amount will be greatly appreciated, and will help tremendously in covering the costs incurred during this battle. As soon as I have clarity on the situation, and what the way forward holds, I will provide an update. I would like to thank all my friends, and those who have already offered financial assistance. I really appreciate it, and appreciate the love, care and support I have received from the Ermelo community up to this point,” Sean said. If you would like to make a contribution towards Sean’s cause, you my do so via Capitec Savings, 1367673869. Sean will be consulting again with medical professionals during the course of next week to discuss the next steps. < Previous Article Next Article >

In 2024 1/2 Share GK CRONJE 23 March 2021 Many fuming residents in Breyten sit without potable water for the 10th consecutive week. There has been no tangible action forthcoming from authorities. Water and Sanitation Deputy Minister, David Mahlobo, has performed a sod-turning to mark the beginning of work on the Greater Breyten Water Supply Scheme project in Warburton, Mpumalanga. he Greater Breyten Water Supply Scheme project is part of the Msukaligwa Regional Bulk Supply Scheme, which aims to ensure that all water infrastructure has sufficient capacity to cater for the future water demands over a 30-year design horizon. The estimated cost of the project is reported to be approximately R330 million. he project, which is planned for 36 months and anticipated to be completed by 13 May 2024, will cover four magisterial areas in Msukaligwa Local Municipality, including Breyten, Chrissiesmeer, Lothair and Warburton. At the sod-turning ceremony, Mahlobo acknowledged that the community is not well served, especially when it comes to water provision. “Today marks a major milestone towards achieving the infrastructure goals, as articulated in our Water Master and National Development Plan of Infrastructure Development and Provision of Access to Water for our people. We are very confident that after the completion of these water projects, our people will have access to water and decent sanitation, which will restore dignity to our people.” Mahlobo said. This statement is hollow and frail, as many fuming residents in Breyten sit without potable water for the 10th consecutive week. There has been no tangible action forthcoming from authorities. Work is underway to draw water from Torbanite Dam and bring it to Breyten, Chrissiesmeer, Warburton and Lothair. “Today, together with the District Mayor and the Local Mayor, we are handing over to the contractor to start working under the implementing agent, which is the Gert Sibande District.” the Deputy Minister said. He condemned the vandalism and theft of water infrastructure, as this leaves people without water, and called on the community to work with the government to prevent theft and vandalism of water infrastructure. The project scope includes the refurbishment of the Torbanite Dam pump station, installation of new raw water rising main from Torbanite Dam to Breyten Water Treatment Works (WTW), refurbishment of the Breyten WTW, installation of a new rising main from Breyten WTW to Breyten WTW reservoirs, replacement of secondary bulk mains supplying Breyten town, and installation of a new rising main from Breyten WTW to Chrissiesmeer bulk reservoirs.
