Merino Mall officially announced 1/1 Share GK CRONJE 6 July 2021 Merino Mall is set to enhance the current retail offering in Ermelo and will bring convenience, value and pride to the town’s visitors, residents, and its surrounding communities. The greater Gert Sibande District in Mpumalanga can finally look forward to the highly anticipated new shopping centre, Merino Mall, coming to fruition after 7 years of planning. Property developers Moolman Group and Abland are joining forces to construct this 28 000m² fully enclosed small regional shopping centre. It will be the only shopping centre of this stature to exist within a 100 km radius, making it a tremendous addition to the Ermelo community and surrounds. The developers are partnering with MDS Architecture, who have delivered remarkable shopping centres such as Rustenburg Mall, Middelburg Mall, Ferndale on Republic, and Sam Ntuli Mall. EHS-Krieket klop Carolina Akademiese Skool op krieketveld 1/2 Share SM HATTINGH 31 August 2021 Die Erries se span stap met goeie ervaring uit dié wedstryd, en bedank Carolina Akademiese Skool vir dié geleentheid. “Baie sterkte met die komende seisoen, Erries. EHS hou jul dop en sien uit na julle spog spel op die krieket veld.” Die Erries se eerste krieket span het op Woensdag, 25 Augustus, op uitnodiging na Carolina Akademiese Skool gereis vir hul eerste wedstryd van die 2021-seisoen. Dié wedstryd was die eerste van twee vriendskaplike wedstryde wat die Erries sal speel ter voorbereiding vir die liga-seisoen wat voorlê. EHS wen die loot, en besluit om eerste te kolf. Op ‘n uiters uitdagende “flexi”-blad kwyt die Errie-aanvangs kolwers hul goed van hul taak, en bou ‘n sterk fondasie vir ‘n belowende telling. Aanvangskolwer, Rian Barnard, lei sy span se aanslag met ‘n fenomenale beurt. Na slegs 80 aflewerings, bereik Barnard sy honderdtal. Twaalf balle later eindig hierdie belowende speler sy beurt op 131 lopies. Die Errie-kolwers handhaaf deurgaans ‘n goeie lopie tempo van 10.44, en eindig hul beurt na die toegelate vyf-en-twintig beurte, op ‘n telling van 261 vir die verlies van ses paaltjies. Met die bal in die hand het die Errie-boulers uit die staanspoor gewys wat te wag te kan wees, en het met ‘n paar vurige aflewerings hul opponente vroeg reeds op die agter voet geplaas. Spel is egter kortliks gestaak as gevolg van reën. Na die breuk het die Erries vinnig met hul opponente afgereken. Hoërskool Ermelo nommer een in Msukaligwa 1/1 Share SHNHATTINGH 27 April 2021 “Hoërskool Ermelo is besonder trots op die prestasie wat die skool, onderwysers en Vosjan behaal het. Dankie vir elkeen se bydrae om te sorg dat EHS se akademie van top gehalte is.” Op Vrydag, 16 April 2021, het die prysuitdeling van die Msukaligwa 1-streek vir die 2020-matriekuitslae plaasgevind. Nie net is Hoërskool Ermelo die nommer een presterende skool in die GertSibande-distrik nie, maar ook, soos aangewys tydens die Msukaligwa 1-streeksprysuitdeling, neem EHS die eerste plek in vir die beste skool in dié streek. Te danke aan 'n slaagsyfer van 99,1%, en 79% leerders wat slaag met universiteitsvrystelling, het die prestasie die Erries te beurt geval. Errie-atlete presteer tydens landloop byeenkoms 1/2 Share SM HATTINGH 31 August 2021 “Baie geluk aan bovermelde atlete, en baie sterkte met jul voorbereiding vir toekomstige byeenkomste. Die Erries hou julle flinke tred met groot belangstelling dop!” Op 18 Augustus het die Erries se landloop atlete aan 'n landloop byeenkoms te Hoërskool Hertzog deelgeneem. Daar was slegs een byeenkoms vir 2021, en die Erries het hul uitstekend van hul taak gekwyt. Die volgende atlete verdien besondere vermelding: BongmusaVilakazi eindig eerste (seuns o/16), Chester Mpahlele behaal derde plek (seuns o/16), Nicolas Steyn vierde plek (seuns o/14), Mia Steenkamp eerste plek (dogters o/16) en Zané du Plessis tweede plek in dieselfde ouderdomsgroep. Another flat fence for the SAVF 1/2 Share GK CRONJE 10 August 2022 The load bed was filled with sand, which exacerbated the incident. On Wednesday, 3 August 2022, the staff and residents of the SAVF Home in Fourie Street once again watched with shock and awe as yet another heavy vehicle plowed through the palisade fencing near the intersection. According to available information, the vehicle’s brakes failed, whereafter the driver was unable to bring the vehicle to a stop. The load bed was filled with sand, which exacerbated the incident. The vehicle flattened a section of the palisade fencing, and luckily came to a halt as it collided with one of the oak trees in the parking area. Sections of the tree splintered off and crashed to the ground in the parking area. Miraculously, the driver escaped with minor injuries, despite the heavy vehicle’s cab being extensively crushed. No other injuries have been reported during the incident. Provincial EMS, Van Wettens Towing Services, Msukaligwa Traffic, Msukaligwa Fire & Rescue and other roleplayers were on scene in a matter of minutes to assess the scene, which took several hours to clean up. This has culminated in an approximately 3 000MW energy demand deficit, aggravated by very high demand during the cold front. The Board is pleased that some units have since returned to service, but is aware that the level of failures is unacceptably high. In response to the escalation of load shedding to Stage 4 recently, the Eskom Board is working closely with the Executive Management to speedily resolve the matter. The Board is pleased that some units have since returned to service, but is aware that the level of failures is unacceptably high. Whilst it is true that the aging fleet is plagued by legacy issues of neglect and omitted maintenance and is therefore susceptible to unpredictable breakdowns, it is also true that the situation is exacerbated by serious issues of apathetic behavior by some management staff. It is for this reason that the Board has come out strongly in support of Group Chief Executive (GCE), Mr. André de Ruyter, in his action yesterday morning of summarily suspending the Tutuka and Kendal power station managers pending disciplinary inquiries. Further interventions are ongoing at the Kriel and Duvha power stations. Engagements have been held with other power station managers to ensure that the previous culture of weak consequence management will no longer be the norm and will no longer be tolerated at Eskom. The Executive has, in the meantime, deployed three senior generation managers to the sites in question (Duvha, Kriel, Tutuka and Kendal power stations) to provide leadership and oversight in person. The Board and executives are fully cognizant of the substantial strain that load shedding exerts on the wellbeing of citizens, on an already depressed economy and are committed to attaining sustainability and reliability of the Eskom generation plant. The Board and Executive Management have met twice in the past two days, with the Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr. Pravin Gordhan, to interrogate the systemic causes of the load shedding and the measures being taken to repair breakdowns. In these meetings it has been agreed that an urgent culture change and high-level competence enhancement across all 44 000 staff, which the GCE began upon his arrival, should be accelerated, promoted and strongly supported. < Previous Article Next Article >

ESKOM to switch off overloaded networks during peak 1/1 Share GK CRONJE 7 July 2020 Illegal connections will result in communities staying for days without electricity, as parts and resources are not always available. The replacement of a 20 MVA power transformer costs anything between R100 000 and R7.3 million, which is untenable,’ Eskom stated. This after reporting a significant rise in network overloading as a result of illegal connections and bypassed meters, Eskom has decided to take drastic measures. Due to inability of municipalities to control illegal connections, provide equitable electricity to all residents in a safe manner, and honor payment agreements to the power utility, load reduction measures have been put in place. The power utility said in a that illegal activities on their network results in damage to the electricity infrastructure through explosions in overloaded transformers and mini-substations. In response to the problem, Eskom will switch off overloaded networks during peak periods, and power will be switched back on after the peak loading period. “Should Eskom’s infrastructure be damaged due to illegal connections, for the safety of the network and the public and its infrastructure, Eskom will only replace the transformer once the illegal connections have been removed and it is safe to energise the area. This will result in communities staying for days without electricity, as parts and resources are not always available. The replacement of a 20 MVA power transformer costs anything between R100 000 and R7.3 million, which is untenable,’ Eskom stated. COGTA minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, designated under section 3 and 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002), has gazetted a notice which moved the country to adjusted level 4 as announced by the president. In a statement, the minister said the third wave and the Delta variant have led to a massive surge in new infections which necessitated that they must once again tighten restrictions on the movement of persons, gatherings, curfews and non pharmaceutical interventions. Therefore, under alert Level 4, initiation (ingoma) practices and post-initiation celebrations are prohibited. MEC Busi Shiba has officially suspended all initiation schools in Mpumalanga. Traditional leaders are urged to follow the rules, and to adhere to these extraordinary steps to reduce the infection rate. The suspension of the practice will be until further notice. “This suspension is in accordance with the Disaster Management regulations outlined by the national Department of Cooperative Governance as one of the preventative measures against the spread of the virus, as well as President Ramaphosa’s call to suspend all gatherings during the Level 4 lockdown. After the plight of taxi users in the area, construction has officially been completed, and the handover of the newly developed taxi rank in Carolina, coupled with a taxi office facility, took place on Saturday, 1 May 2021. The event was hosted in commemoration of Workers’ Day, and served as a word of thanks to all workers. Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr DP Nkosi, the Speaker of Council, Cllr MW Mngomezulu, the Municipal Manager Mr MS Dlamini, the Director of Community Safety Services, Mr. W Shabangu, executives of Taxi Associations and SANTACO were in attendance at the event, cutting the ribbon to officially open the establishment. LJV klink die doppies 1/8 Share GK CRONJE 1 December 2020 Die LJV sien uit om alle skuts, beginner of veterane, te sien by die volgende skietdag, wat binnekort aangekondig sal word. Die skuts van die Laeveld Jagters Vereniging (LJV) het hulself gate uit geniet by die onlangse skietdag, waar groot prestasies opgelewer was. Die formaat was 3 Gun, en die ou bulle het gewys dat hulle nog op en top is, met Pieter Ackerman wat met eerste plek wegstap in die veterane afdeling, met Danie Roos in tweede en Costas Klonaris in derde plek. In die senior dames afdeling neem Christelle Aucamp eerste plek in, Letitia van Rooyen tweede en Thelmari Aucamp derde plek in met puik tellings. Die senior mans het nie op hul laat wag nie, met Rudie Snyman in eerste plek, Riaan Neethling en Riaan Stander wat tweede plek deel, en Hardus Aucamp wat derde plek inneem. Rudie Snyman Jnr neem eerste plek in die junior afdeling, met Pieter de Beer Jnr in tweede plek. In die junior junior afdeling het Reynard de Beer behoorlik sy staal gewys. Thelmari Aucamp stap ook weg as die wenner van die gelukkige trekking. Die LJV nooi alle belangstellendes uit om die skietdae saam te kom geniet. Skuts wat belang stel hoef noe noodwendig lede van die LJV te wees nie, en kan met ‘n skamele bedrag van slegs R50 deelneem aan die skietkompetisies. Op die dae word eet- en drinkgoed ook te koop beskikbaar gestel, en alle ouderdomsgroepe word hartlik uitgenooi.
