Former Minister of State Security, Bongani Thomas Bongo, and ten others appeared briefly in the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court on charges of corruption, fraud, theft, money laundering and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act. Robert Burwise, Patrick Donald Chirwa, Harrington Sizwakhendaba Dhlamini, Blessing Mduduzi Singwane, David Boy Dube, Sipho Joel Bongo, Vusi Willem Magagula, Bongani Louis Henry Sibiya, Elmon Lawrence Mdaka, and Sibongile Mercy Mdaka were reported to the DPCI investigating team and were charged earlier this morning together with four companies and face 69 counts. The companies implicated are The Little River Trading 156 (Pty) Ltd, Broad Market Trading 204 (Pty) Ltd, Bongiveli CC, and Pfuka Afrika CC. The allegations are in connection with the R37.5 million sale and purchase of a farm Naauwpoort at Emalahleni by the Mpumalanga Department of Human Settlement (DoHS) ostensibly on behalf of eMalahleni Municipality. Some of the accused, acting in common concert and with common purpose, exploited the normal phenomenon of purchase of land by government by misrepresenting facts to the DOHS regarding ownership and true sale price of the farm Naauwpoort. The real owner of the farm, Petrus Johannes Van Tonder, was paid only R15 million for the farm from the R37.5 million. The money was paid into the trust account of Singwane Attorneys, in their capacity as conveyancer appointed by the department. Van Tonder paid R1.5 million commission to Pam Golding as estate agents for the transaction. Singwane, not instructed by the department, paid R22.5 million to Little River Trading, which enabled the accused to successfully steal the money. In another transaction, Bongiveli entered into a sale and purchase agreement with Fremax Farms for a portion of Rietspruit Farm for an amount of R10.5 million. However, Msukaligwa Local Municipality's valuation of the portion of the Rietspruit farm was valued at R1.6 million. Little River paid R1.5 million as deposit for the farm, and Bongiveli had to deliver a guarantee issued by a bank or financial institution for payment of the balance of the purchase price on or before 31 May 2011. In turn, some of the accused, as members of Pfuka Afrika CC, received commission of R4.5 million. In March 2011 the DOHS, Msukaligwa Local Municipality and Bongiveli entered into a sale and purchase agreement for Rietspruit Farm. When the said sale and purchase agreement was signed, Bongiveli was not the owner of the farm, and there was no approval of the departmental to purchase the farm. Msukaligwa Local Municipality's valuation of the portion of the Rietspruit Farm was valued at R1.6 million. In March 2011, the DOHS paid an R52 884 384.00 to Singwane. Subsequently, the law firm furnished Freemax with a guarantee of R15 661 018.59. The property was then transferred to Bongiveli from Msugalikwa Local Municipality, and the company became the owner of the farm. The farm was sold back to DOHS for R32 million. The farms fell out of the Spatial Development Plan for the municipality, and therefore not categorized for human settlement. To date it has not been proclaimed as township. It is alleged that some of the accused received kickbacks of cash and cars, among others, from some of the entities involved in the transactions. 'n Dekade van stank vir dank 1/3 Share GK CRONJE 12 October 2021 Gesagsfigure van MLM laat veel te wense in terme van dienslewering, sowel as verskeie wyksraadslede wat deeglik bewus is van die probleme waarmee inwoners te kampe het. Met die munisipale verkiesing wat op 1 November 2021 plaasvind, staan munisipaliteite en politiese partye regoor die land paraat met goue beloftes en groot sprake van opgeknapte dienslewering en verandering in die land se chaotiese toestand. In Ermelo is dit egter ‘n heel ander storie. Terwyl die land se munisipaliteite benoude spronge gee, en soveel oënskynlike dienslewering as moontlik probeer lewer voor die verkiesing, gee Msukaligwa Plaaslike Munisipaliteit (MLM) nie ‘n dooie duit om nie. Inwoners van President Fouché Straat is warm onder die kraag nadat verkiesingsplakkate opgerig was in die area, terwyl die mense wild en wakker uitswaai vir slaggate, en rou riool die velde vol vloei. “Dit is skandelik, hulle het geen skaamte, en geen trots nie;” het ‘n hoogs ontstoke inwoner aan die Tribune ePaper gesê. “Die manne wat die plakkate kom opsit het hier naby my huis, sal mos nou met hulle bakkie deur die riool ry, agter op die bakkie staan en die plakkate teen die boom vas sit, en dan nog lag oor hoe die rou riool spat terwyl hul deur dit ry. Skandelik, dit is al woord wat ek aan kan dink.” Ten spyte van die rioolprobleem wat al vir meer as ‘n dekade inwoners dwars in die krop steek, keur MLM steeds nuwe bouprojekte, bouplanne en uitbreidings links en regs goed, terwyl die omgewing, die fauna en flora, sowel as die inwoners aan die kortste end trek. Die vervalle rioolstelsel in President Fouchélaan en die omliggende wyke draai afwaarts op ‘n daaglikse basis, met munisipale bestuurders uit drie, en binnekort die vierde verkiesing, se beloftes wat steeds nie nagekom word nie. Die impak op die natuurlewe en vleilanddiere, veral die reiers wat Ermelo altyd verfraai het, is kommerwekkend. Die konstante riool besoedeling in hierdie area het die Pet Dam, wat altyd die tuiste van hierdie voêls was, so erg besoedel dat nie boom wat hulle nes gemaak het in, gevrek en verdor het. Die reiers het met die verdorring ook hulself skaars gemaak, en talle van die voêls is dood aangetref. Die impak van die besoedeling is ook bewys deur honderde visse in die Pet Dam wat gevrek het in 2016. Dié besoedeling, direk veroorsaak deur rou riool vanaf President Fouchélaan en die area tot bo Camdenlaan, is doodluiters onder die mat ingevee. Die kwansuise water toetse wat gedoen sou word deur die munisipalitiet en die Gert Sibande Distrik, se resultaat het nooit die lig van dag gesien nie. Alhoewel die Tribune ePaper telkens navrae gerig het aan MLM rakende die besoedeling en die water toetse, het die munisipale woordvoerder en relevante departemente absoluut geen reaksie, en geen terugvoer verskaf nie. Navrae word bloot geignoreer deur die munisipaliteit. Afgesien van die rioolstorting wat na die Pet Dam vloei en 'n spoor van besoedeling en dood in die natuur agterlaat, sluit die oorloop van dié dam aan by die Klein Drinkwater stroom, wat uiteindelik in die reeds hoogs besoedelde Vaalrivier beland. On Saturday, 20 August 2022, Ermelo CPF members, 303 Security, Kunene Security, ACSU, AfriForum Buurtwag and Sinqobile Equestrian Security Services partook in a community security patrol, following the learner that passed away at Cebisa School. The funeral was held on Saturday, where all the members assisted the family to ensure that the funeral could proceed without incident. After the funeral, all the different security units took part in patrol through town, as well as informal settlements, to make sure that Ermelo is safe. During the night, there was another patrol, where different taverns, shebeens and party places in town where searched for any drugs, underage drinking, and to ensure that all the establishments close at the times that are stipulated on their liqour license. At some establishments, there were weapons found, and suspects were arrested on possession of dangerous weapons charges. Emelo SAPS and CPF members would like to thank all roleplayers that were involved in this patrol, to make sure that Ermelo is clean and safe. Prof. Andrè Duvenhage, the Research Director of Social Transformation at the North-West University. 1/4 Share GK CRONJE 15 September 2020 During the congress, Mr. Henry Geldenhuys (previous deputy-president) was elected as the new president of TLU SA. “It is an honour and highlight for me, but TLU SA is the priority,” he says. “Together, we will take TLU SA to new heights.” The congress elected Mr. Wannie Scribante (previous manager of the central region) as the new deputy president. Agriculture in South Africa, as well as the world, is on the verge of a new approach. That was the main message and theme of the annual congress of TLU SA, hosted recently. Due to lockdown regulations, the congress was hosted virtually for the first time this year, and regions and affiliations could attend via Zoom. The exiting president, Mr. Louis Meintjes, called on farmers to become more involved to ensure the existence of agriculture in the future. “I think the critical question is: Will you take part or will you stay behind? Are you changing or stagnating? Will you be more profitable or bankrupt?” Meintjes asked. Prof. Andrè Duvenhage, the Research Director of Social Transformation at the North-West University, confirmed this train of thought. “The situation will most probably only become worse going forward. The farming community is dependent on themself and self-help, and self-management looks like the best solution.” he stated. Prof. Duvenhage aslo warned that the amendment of Article 25, relating to land expropriation without compensation, would go ahead, and groups like the BLF and EFF will take matters into their own hands to cause widespread anarchy. “It is now the time to stand with each other and support each other. Build bridges to each other as agricultural organisations. Build bridges to each other as farmers. It is also the time to come up with alternative plans. It is the challenge of the new leadership of TLU SA to adjust to the changing circumstances to stay relevant in fundamental issues and to further the interests of farmers in all fields of life.” he concluded. Shoprite Group the first to recycle sanitizing wipes 1/1 Share GK CRONJE 27 October 2021 "As a manufacturer, our responsibility is to ensure that these products do not pose a risk to the environment.” The Shoprite Group is the first retailer to recycle the sanitizing wipes from its 1 328 supermarkets nationwide. The wipes, which are green to identify them as 100% recyclable polypropylene, are used to sanitize baskets and trolleys, and are sent for recycling after use. The bucket container, and all stickers on the bucket, are also 100% polypropylene and recyclable. This is a grand gesture, as it is estimated that 129 billion face masks, and 65 billion plastic gloves are discarded every month, globally. Since the onset of the pandemic, retailers have been faced with a number of environmental challenges, including a massive increase in the quantity of wipes. For the Shoprite Group, this has amounted to tens of thousands of kilograms a month. The Group partnered with Sani-Touch to provide it with 100% recyclable wipes, and has embarked on a programme to isolate used wipes, and make sure it is sent for recycling rather than being thrown away with general waste and ending up in landfill. The increased quantity of wipes, and the opportunity to source locally, resulted in the ShopriteGroup moving more wipe products across to the locally-sourced polypropylene. “With small changes to the way we do things, we can ensure that single-use products such as wipes don’t only offer excellent infection protection, but can also be environmentally neutral,” said Group Sustainability Manager, Sanjeev Raghubir. The wet wipes supplier, Sani-Touch, said that volumes in the past have not been big enough for many companies to recycle, but by including the buckets, and with the volumes of wipes that the Shoprite Group uses, this has become viable. “Wet wipes have proven to be invaluable in the fight against the virus, as well as in general infection control in public places and in medical facilities, eliminating the chance of cross infection. SASCO steps in at GS College 1/1 Share GK CRONJE 20 April 2021 Students are also irked due to the fact that learning material allowances have not been allocated to some students, even though some have commenced with the 2021 academic year. Gert Sibande Ermelo Campus has seen its fair share of protests and unrest recently, while attempting to appease students who have not received their NSFAS grant payments, whilst others have only received partial payment. The Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, addressed this issue, and said that NSFAS will only receiving it's first bulk of money from National Treasury in April 2021, from where they will start disbursing funds to institutions. However, the South African Students Congress (SASCO) is having none of this. SASCO has voiced its concern regarding the non-payment to TVET Colleges, and as a result many vulnerable students have been evicted from their residences. SASCO has written to the Chief Executive Officer, Andile Nongogo, requesting an urgent meeting to get a full report on the situation, and will further request to meet the DDG responsible for TVET Colleges. “We call upon all colleges affected to speedily share their registration templates with the National Financial Aid Scheme, in order to ensure that students are not unnecessarily disadvantaged due to negligence and incompetence. We will instruct our SRCs and SAVETSA to ensure that colleges are compliant and cooperating, to speedily resolve these issues. We wish to reiterate our call that TVET Colleges deserve better quality student accommodation of the same standard as universities. This move will ensure that TVET Colleges also accredit and protect the livelihood of college students, and shield them from further abuse by landlords,” SASCO said in a statement. Tydens die dag was daar 148 spelers wat deelgeneem het. Daar was heerlik saam gekuier, en die spelers was vermaak deur Jakkie Louw terwyl Buffelsfontein Brandewyn die spelers kom bederf het. Ermeloërs maak hul harte oop 1/1 Share SH HATTINGH 7 Julie 2020 Die gemeenskap van Ermelo het dit goed gedink om oor ‘n verlengde tydperk al die insamelings te doen vir die minder bevoorregte mense. Daar is verskeie ouderdomme inwoners, van klein kindertjies wat mens aanstaar met honger ogies, tot ouer mense wat nie weet hoe om vir hulle kinders te verduidelik dat daar nie kos of geld is nie. Nou dat ons in die hart van die winter is, is daar mense wat nie eers warm klere of komberse het nie. Die Ermelo gemeenskap het op Saterdag, 27 Junie, hul harte opgemaak deur vir minder bevoorregte mense kos-, klere- asook kospakkies te gaan aflewer. Die gemeenskap van Ermelo het dit goed gedink om oor ‘n verlengde tydperk al die insamelings te doen vir die minder bevoorregte mense. Daar is verskeie ouderdomme inwoners, van klein kindertjies wat mens aanstaar met honger ogies, tot ouer mense wat nie weet hoe om vir hulle kinders te verduidelik dat daar nie kos of geld is nie. Die organiseerders van die projek, saam met die MOTHS Klub, wil graag almal bedank wat ‘n helpende hand bygevoeg het met die insameling van die projek. Toe die Ligbron OBBG Weeg en Wen-Mielieprojek op 8 Oktober 2020 geloods is deur Erhard Prinsloo, het die organiseerders min besef dat die uitkoms hul wildste drome sou oortref. Verskeie boere van die omgewing het deelgeneem aan hierdie suksesvolle projek, en die Ligbron OBBG spreek graag hul opregte dank uit aan die Ermelo- gemeenskap vir hul getroue ondersteuning. Die gala-aand is aangebied op Donderdag, 2 September, by die stylvolle Kralinbergh Estate, met die bekende gaskunstenaars, Nadine Blom en Andrew Roos. Ermelo se eie musiek kenner het luister verleen aan die aand. Die boere was dit eens dat hierdie seisoen ‘n buiten gewoon hoë opbrengs gelewer het, en onder die professionele leiding van mnr. Neels van der Schyff en mnr. Carl Jacobsz van Omnia, is die wenners bepaal en aangekondig. Dit het ‘n antwoord op die jaar se wonder en spekuleer gebring , daar is geweeg… en wie het gewen? Die vier boere met die hoogste opbrengs per hektaar is beloon. Die eerste en tweede plek is los geboer deur mnre. Christiaan Paul en Ruan Paul van KRC Farming. Hulle ontvang gesamentlik prysgeld ter waarde van R250 000, geskenk deur Ligbron OBBG. Mnr. Johan van Niekerk, in die derde plek, ontvang ‘n grassnyer geborg deur Agri Benodighede. Die vierde plek, beklee deur mnr. Fanus Stapelberg, ontvang Omnia presisie boerdery ontledings ter waarde van R40 000. Elkeen van die ander deelnemers het ‘n sakkie Dekalb Monsanto-saad ontvang. Die kwaliteit en sukses van so ‘n wenprojek is nie haalbaar sonder die insette van ons getroue borge nie.
