Government backtracks on feeding scheme agreement

“The closure of the NSNP impacts not only on the health and education of learners, but has knock-on effects on entire families – in a context of heightened unemployment and loss of income due to the nationwide lockdown, many families are struggling to put food on the table. These families urgently require the NSNP to be reinstated in order to meet their children's basic nutritional needs and ensure that they are able to buy other desperately needed necessities in the home,” the bodies stated.

Refineries bogged down by demand

Neither Mantashe, nor parliament's portfolio committee on mineral resources and energy chairperson, Sahlulele Luzipo, had responded to the DA's request for an urgent briefing on what was being done to mitigate this crisis.

AfriForum-takke in Mpumalanga help gemeenskappe tydens COVID

Die takke in die provinsie – Bethal, Delmas, Ermelo, Leandra, Lydenburg, Machadodorp, Middelburg, Nelspruit, Piet Retief, Secunda, Standerton, Witbank en Witrivier – het altesaam meer as R150 000 se voedsel, handreiniger en maskers versprei. Hierdie projekte is gefinansier vanuit skenkings, takfondse en die taknoodfonds wat tydens die inperking op die been gebring is.

Kendall power plant up to be scrapped

9 June 2020

Environment Minister Barbara Creecy has already instructed Eskom to stop operations at least at one of two Kendal power station units found to be posing serious health risks to the surrounding communities. Kendal, built in 1982 is not on the list as Eskom began shutting down some of its old power stations in 2019. It shut three units at the Hendrina power. Grootvlei was scheduled to close this year, and Komati by 2021.

NSFAS students urged to use allowances to buy devices

Nchabeleng said the work that NSFAS is doing in support of the departmental objectives to increase the number of poor students in higher education at no cost, is noted. He said more work needs to be done around a policy that will ensure access to the category of students who belong to the ‘missing middle’.
