Die gedigte is maklik verstaanbaar, en elke gedig vertel ‘n storie. " Kleintjie Smalberger (Strydom) is ‘n hoogs talentvolle dame, wat asems laat snak met haar pragtige woorde wat sy pen. “Ek skryf tans hoofsaaklik poësie... Dit lê my baie na aan die hart. Dit is baie goeie terapie, en is vir my ontspannend. My grootste aansporing was maar omdat ek al soveel hartseer en ongelukkige tye beleef en ervaar het. My groot liefde vir die Groot-Karoo, asook groot heimwee na my grootword dorp deel ook in my gedigte. Alles wat mooi en kosbaar is vir my, moet ek egter neerpen. Fotografie, musiek en die mooie natuur vorm alles deel van my skryfwerk,” het Kleintjie aan die Tribune gesê. “Dinge wat ons land raak, asook ons boere in erge droogte tye het my vinnig laat voel ek moet daaroor skryf. Dan natuurlik ook ons destydse spoorweë en hawens, vir wie ek ook gewerk het, het my genoop om daaroor te skryf.” Kleintjie het onlangs haar vierde digbundel laat publiseer, en het gesê dat dit nogal baie aangenaam voel om die uiteindelike fisiese digbundel in haar hande vas te hou. Ongelukkig moet ek as digter en skryfster my woorde mooi kies,” sê Kleintjie. Sy het ook vir ‘n jaar lank vir die Insig Koerant in Ermelo ‘n rubriek geskryf, wat goeie reaksie uitgelok het. Kleintjie het die afgelope jaar begin konsentreer op kortverhale skryf, en het gesê dat sy dit baie aangenaam vind. Baie van die verhale is fiksie, en sommiges is fiksie gemeng met ware lewensgebeure. “Ek beplan, indien alles goed verloop, en indien ek gespaar bly, om ‘n kortverhaal omnibus te laat publiseer teen Desember 2022. Dit sal dan my debuut kortverhaal boek wees. MMM displays the power of prayer 1/2 Share GK CRONJE 13 September 2022 The CPF, SAPS & MMM have pledged to continue visiting schools. Mpumalanga Men's Movement (MMM) and the Road Traffic Infringement Agency home of AARTO, along with both provincial and Msukaligwa traffic departments gathered at the N2 Acacia Crossing recently, to pray against accidents on N2 during this season. This initiative will continue as the local Community Police Forum (CPF), SAPS & MMM have announced a mass prayer day for Ermelo, that will take place on 16 September 2022, at Thuthukani Hall, next to Cebisa Secondary School. This comes as incidents of murder have risen at an alarming rate since 1 September 2022, with at least 5 murder cases that have been opened. “Special focus is directed to the murder case of Gogo and the young girl at eMadamini, that were brutally killed recently, as well as the stabbing of young man over chips at New Ermelo, Nyibe. This calls for action, and something must be done against these acts. We have invited pastors from all churches, all organizations, and the community at large to join this prayer walk, from Extension 1 hostel, via the municipal chamber intersection, and then off to Thuthukani Hall, where prayer service will continue” MMM said. The CPF, SAPS & MMM have pledged to continue visiting schools, and have already visited Cebisa Secondary School, Ermelo Combined School, Ithafa and Lindile to search for weapons, drugs and prohibited items on school premises. “This is to motivate them to stay away from gangs and drugs, and to stop bullying, to ensure that learners focus on their studies, free from influence of drugs, or fear of life from fellow learners. Schools should remain a weapon and drug free area, where students should remain sober and safe, by any means necessary,” MMM concluded. Rietspruit housing development taking shape 1/4 Share GK CRONJE 6 April 2021 Residential, retail and parks were touted as the main attraction, and water, sewage and roads infrastructure will be made available by DOHS. After years of allegations of corruption, arrests of officials, and land invasions from irate residents, Rietspruit Farm, also known as Extension 44, had finally been allocated by the Department of Human Settlements (DOHS) to house nearly 5 000 housing units. This flagship project was recently officiated last year by Msukaligwa Local Municipality’s executive mayor, Cllr. Mkhaliphi, is showing progress and much promise. Gert Sibande District Municipality regional planning unveiled that a reported 5 760 stands had been made available, with an estimated 4 000 mixed housing opportunities. Plans for more than 600 rental units were also mentioned. TLU SA to raise awareness of farm attacks 1/0 Share GK CRONJE 4 August 2020 “This year we already faced 35 murders in 180 farm attacks. These are not statistics. They are people. South Africans often do not realize the scale of the impact of attacks on agriculture as a whole and ultimately, on food production.” Therefore, on 14 August 2020, TLU SA will virtually walk around South Africa in 24 hours in protest against the 5 530 farm attacks since 1990. TLU SA is anxious about the increase in farm attacks, which this weekend lead to five murders. It earnestly urges farmers, their families and workers to be alert at all times. “The nine attacks of this weekend confirmed our observation that the marked decrease in violent crimes on farms during the first week of the lockdown, was shortlived. The first six months of 2020 mirror the same period in 2019,” says Mr. Henry Geldenhuys, the chairman of TLU SA’s Safety Committee, and deputy president of TLU SA. Apart from the increase in crime, the lockdown also leads to further complications when police stations have to close temporarily after exposure to COVID-19. The public often does not have any alternative numbers for SAPS members at these stations, and they are left to their own devices during attacks. “It’s been some time since TLU SA realized they could not depend on the government to safeguard them,” says Mr. Geldenhuys. “People who live on farms increasingly have to make use of their own abilities and capacity to ensure their safety. The solution lies in personal alertness and readiness.” From the feedback after failed attacks, it is clear that victims who were highly alert and ready, with a weapon on hand, and could effectively prevent an attack. The reaction of a well-organized Farm Watch, made up of members who knows the environment and residents, is invaluable when the reaction time and effective action of the police are limited. Safety starts with the individual farmer, then the family and workers and then branches out to neighbours, Farm Watch and the police. It is crucial to be prepared by keeping a weapon for self-defense within reach, to have your contingency plan in place, and ensuring the ability to communicate from the farm, is established. TLU SA urgently requests farmers to join local safety structures and always to be alert. The farmers of South Africa are of vital importance. They have the particular knowledge and expertise to farm in a marginal agriculture country to produce food for our tables. They are viewed as some of the best farmers in the world. SAPS destroys nearly 25 000 firearms 1/1 Share GK CRONJE 20 July 2021 “A firearm is issued to an individual and cannot be dealt with like any other asset when the owner dies. The Act provides that in case of death, the family/executor must dispose of the firearm by deactivating it through a gunsmith, sell it to an accredited firearm dealer or individual or voluntarily surrender it to SAPS for destruction,” the SAPS concluded. The South African Police Service has revealed that 24 901 firearms, which included 3 610 rifles, 3 083 shotguns and 17 383 handguns. “The police have to continually detect and remove illegal firearms from circulation, as they are being used to commit serious and violent crimes.Melting these firearms therefore ensures that the proliferation of firearms is dealt a blow. The SAPS will continue to detect and remove illegal firearms and ammunition from the streets of South Africa, as they pose a threat to the safety and security of the inhabitants of this country,” the SAPS said in a statement. The destroyed firearms included firearms voluntarily handed over during the previous two firearm amnesty periods, as well as those that were either confiscated or surrendered to the State. The smelting took place at the Cape Gate Steel in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng. According to the police, approximately half of the firearms that have been destroyed were handed in during the 2019/2020 and the 2020/2021 Firearm Amnesty periods. These amnesty firearms were also subjected to IBIS testing and there were no positive hits nor firearm applications linked to them. Deputy president, David Mabuza, said according to the results of the latest tuberculosis (TB) prevalence survey report, TB prevalence is 1,6 times higher in men than in women. According to the reports, nearly 40% of all infected individuals do not know that they have TB. “The SANAC men’s sector has done commendable work through various platforms in an effort to sensitise men about the importance of fostering health-seeking behaviour. Until we reach and change men’s perspective in every setting, we will never win the battle against TB. Out of the estimated 390 000 people infected with the disease, only 60% have been diagnosed. Nadat 'n behoefte geïdentifiseer is, het die ErrieUnie die inisiatief geneem om 'n nuwe skrummasjien vir die hoërskool te laat bou. Die STONEHOUSE skrummasjien is op dieselfde wyse gebou as die een wat die Pumas en Springbokke huidiglik gebruik. Daar is besluit om die skrummasjien na voormalige onderwyser en afrigter by die Erries, Jimmy Stonehouse, te vernoem omdat hy 'n reuse impak gehad het by die skool se rugby jare gelede. Shocking amount of school materials dumped in field 1/4 Share GK CRONJE 29 June 2021 A large number of named workbooks and assessment sheets have been noted, along with personal correspondence and documents of several of the school principals. A concerning amount of school materials, of which text books and learning materials from Department of Basic Education (DBE) forms a large part, has been discovered in a field near Chris Streicher Avenue. Amongst the text books, worksheets and stationery, discarded assessment sheets from Umpilusi Primary School, Thubilihle Primary School and Amersfoort Primary School . The dates and timestamps on the documents range from circa 2013 until recently. The reason as to why these materials have been dumped in this area remains unknown. Several bundled textbooks and workbooks, provided by the DBE, have also been discarded. Majority of the textbook- and workbook packs are still sealed in plastic wrapping. A number of stationery items have also been discarded, which included a multitude of pens, crayons and coloring pencils. The discarded textbooks are mostly in native languages. Several numbered editions of Colliers Encyclopedia, have also been discarded. A large number of named workbooks and assessment sheets have been noted, along with personal correspondence and documents of several of the school principals. An enquiry has been lodged with the DBE regarding the wasteful manner in which these learning materials have bene handled. At the time of publication, no response had been received.
