GSDM warns against scam using mayor’s name

The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) has learnt with great disappointment about a scam doing rounds in the public purporting to be from Cllr. Muzi Chirwa, the District Executive Mayor. There are person(s) pretending to be Cllr. Chirwa, sending e-mails to the mayor’s colleagues using an e-mail created using his name, and requesting urgent assistance with different amounts of money.

The public is advised and warned that Cllr. Chirwa distances himself from such conduct which is obviously aimed at deceiving people using his name. Such correspondence is not from Cllr. Chirwa, nor his office. Scams often result in members of the public losing their hard-earned money and we urge the public to be vigilant to avoid the success of these scammers.
